Digital Documentation Team

Our Digital Documentation Team uses cutting edge technologies to digitally document – and thus help to conserve – Scotland’s heritage.

About the team

The Digital Documentation Team’s work feeds directly into the care of Historic Environment Scotland sites and collections. Cutting edge digital technologies are used to document our heritage in 3D. The resulting data can then inform conservation, heritage management, learning and interpretation efforts.

Building others’ capacity in digital heritage is just as much of a team focus, whether through the delivery of training programmes, community engagement or outreach. The team also advises the heritage sector and takes part in applied research relevant to conservation and the work of the sector.

Digital heritage projects like the Scottish Ten and the Rae Project are perhaps what the team is best known for. It carries out much of this work with Glasgow School of Art School of Simulation and Visualisation, as part of a limited liability partnership known as the Centre for Digital Documentation and Visualisation LLP.
