About the team
The Applied Conservation Unit’s work is essential for the upkeep and repair of the buildings and collections looked after by Historic Environment Scotland. Working out of a well-equipped facility at South Gyle in Edinburgh, the team specialises in stone and paintings conservation. It also provides a wider range of services including surveying, analysis, condition monitoring, treatment, close range 3D digital documentation and resin casting. Likely items for them to work with are in-situ carved structural ornaments, field monuments, museum artefacts, easel and structural paintings.
